Making the trip north to Ulverston Masonic hall to represent the Provincial Grand Master at the installation meeting of Lonsdale Lodge of Installed Masters No 9422 was the Rev Harry E Ross.
He was able to enjoy the work of installing master Allan Everett as he installed his successor Brian Fallows in fine style.
By coincidence Allan and Brian are both originally electricians by trade having served their apprenticeships with Vickers Shipbuilding. Allan ended his working career with United Utilities whilst Brain became head of adult training at the local shipyard.
Brian is a member of Baldwin Lodge No 1398 and has served that Dalton in Furness based lodge as WM on two occasions, firstly in 1981 and latterly in 2004. In 1992 he was a founding member of Lonsdale Lodge of Installed Masters.
As is a tradition of the lodge the master elect was presented by the group chairman Alan Jones. Alan gave the address to the new WM and his vice chairman Peter Schofield addressed the wardens. Harry Ross orated the address to the brethren in splendid style.
The ceremony as befits a past masters’ lodge is somewhat abridged but it throws up its own challenges with the work being different to the normal run of things. Perhaps no more so than in the presentation of the working tools which although truncated are never heard elsewhere in the Furness and South Lakeland group. Tony Cassells delivered the working tools of an installed master, Bob Stafford those of the third degree, Ken Robinson followed with the second degree tools and Peter Hampson concluded with the first degree tools.
Proceedings were conducted under the watchful eye of director of ceremonies Ken Boon with secretary Bill Edmonds taking care of all the administrative arrangements.
Harry was presented with a cheque for £500 in favour of the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity.
After the ceremonial part of the proceedings 75 members and guests enjoyed a splendid meal at Ulverston Masonic hall.
