The brethren of the Lodge of Loyalty No 86 assembled to recognise and celebrate 50 years unbroken membership of the lodge by Brian Arthur Fackey when in a very low key ceremony, the group chairman Colin Rowling presented him with his 50 year certificate.
Brian was initiated into Lodge of Loyalty on 13 January 1965 and became junior warden in 1974. Unfortunately, family issues prevented him from taking further office and for a number of years he was unable to attend but he made a point of keeping in touch and maintaining his friendships within the lodge.
Brian was educated at Cowley Boys Grammar school before reading politics and economics at University College London. He then trained as a Chartered Accountant serving articles with Coopers & Lybrand (now Price Waterhouse Coopers) holding senior finance management positions and directorships in local companies which made him eminently qualified to become one of the lodge auditors – an office he has held for several years.
His passions in retirement are travelling, golf and drinking fine wines all of which he does with a vengeance. With family living ‘down under’ he is a regular visitor to Australia and New Zealand and this winter, he said his “tour of duty” took in Hong Kong as well, hence his delayed celebration.
To mark his anniversary, Brian donated two wardens aprons with the stipulation that they are to be used at Installation ceremonies only.
As a mark of their affection, the members of the lodge donated £150 to Brian’s charity – Cancer Research UK.
