There is little doubt that everyone is now aware of the tremendous dedication and work of those on the front line in the fight against Covid-19 and the challenges they face on a daily basis. We are all also aware of how stretched the resources of our NHS are.
Danny Whalley of Progress Lodge No 4120 is particularly aware of the strain on our health service as his daughter Lisa works on the Covid-19 Ward at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. As a result, Danny has made an appeal to all Masons to make donations of new long socks, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and spray-on deodorants, (not bars of soap or roll-on deodorants as these can cause contamination), as stocks are running dangerously low at the hospital.
Since the appeal was first lodged, there has been an immediate and generous response. Within 24 hours, the first donations were being delivered from the Mark Master Masons, along with cheques totalling more than £400.
The appeal has now gone out to all lodges and chapters in the Blackpool, South Fylde and North Fylde Groups and it is anticipated that the tremendous generosity of the Masons will continue. A collection point where items can be donated has been established at the front entrance of the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, from where a dedicated team of volunteers from the Blue Skies Hospitals Fund at Blackpool Victoria Hospital will deliver them to the hospital. Alternatively, go online to https://www.bfwh.nhs.uk/blueskies/ to make monetary donations or to offer your services as a volunteer.
Donations and support received will enable the staff at the hospital to be even better equipped in the fight against this potentially devastating disease. Please help Blue Skies to keep ahead.
