Bingo at Baines a huge success

Having fun has been a top priority at Baines Lodge No 7844 as they gradually work to rebuild their lodge membership. So it was no surprise to find the enthusiastic members having a ball over several games of bingo at Poulton-le-Fylde Masonic Hall.

At the helm as ever, were master of the lodge Creag Williams, director of ceremonies, (otherwise known as the bingo caller), John Lee and the ever-lovely Kath Lee working hard in the background with her team of helpers. These stalwarts were among 74 members and guests who sat down to spring vegetable soup, Easter chicken with seasonal vegetables and strawberries-in-bloom cheesecake.

The prizes for the bingo games were, predictably, Easter eggs; kid’s sized eggs were awarded for the first line of each game with larger eggs for the ‘house’ winners. There were six games in all, which led to much hilarity and banter while John Lee called out the numbers in his own inimitable style. Traditional calls like ‘Kelly’s eye’ for number one and ‘two little ducks’ for number 22 were joined by ‘two rather large eights’ for 88 and ‘two straight lines’ for number 11, just to prove that political correctness was in town. However, the caller was roundly barracked for these and other calling faux pas’ during the evening.

The income from the evening was supplemented by a raffle with a full table of fine prizes. The total income from this lively and entertaining event was £415, which will be donated to both Masonic and non-Masonic charities.

Creag Williams thanked everyone at the end of the evening for supporting whaIt had been, ‘an exciting and enjoyable evening’ and which had raised an excellent sum of money for Baines Lodge members chosen charities: the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, The Alzheimer’s Society, Trinity Hospice, Cascade Trinity and Thornton Primary School. He also promised that a significant figure would be donated to Poulton-le-Fylde Masonic Hall to assist in maintaining its future.

As with most events involving Baines Lodge members, the evening continued with much bonhomie and spirit towards the small hours!
