Members and visitors of Royal Protector Chapter No 3471 were most honoured and delighted to welcome Barry Jameson, Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principals, to their installation meeting. On entering the convocation, Barry was accompanied by group chairman Mike Adams and fellow grand officer Tony Johnson. The meeting, held at Urmston Masonic Hall, was also attended by other provincial grand officers and South Eastern Group officers.
The installation part of the ceremony commenced by way of Cliff Bevan, director of ceremonies, presenting John Phillips as third principal elect, Charles Makinson retained his position as second principal for the evening due to Ray Wilkinson, second principal elect, being unable to attend on the evening so Ray’s installation is to be deferred to a subsequent meeting. This was followed by David Emmett being presented as first principal elect.
The first and third principals having been installed, there then followed robe addresses by companions Stephen Firth to the first principal and David Emmet to the third principal.
On completion of the ceremony, Barry rose to bring the congratulations and good wishes from the Grand Superintendent Tony Harrison, whereas on his behalf, wishing the three principals, their officers and companions in general, a happy and healthy year ahead. Barry said that if Tony had been present, he would have experienced a sincere ceremony and congratulated those individuals of the chapter for their work during the evening.
In response, David rose to thank Barry for the good wishes and presented him with a donation by way of cheque for the sum of £200 being made in favour of the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity.
Barry responded to the presentation by thanking the chapter companions for their exceptional contribution, he said: “On behalf of the charity and more over on behalf of those who we may never know that will ultimately benefit from this kind generosity I offer my thanks to the chapter members.”
The first rising brought greetings from the grand officers to which Mike Adams responded; who similarly congratulated the companions on the evening, Mike said the grand officers had witnessed a delightful ceremony, done very well.
The business of the convocation closed and was followed by a festive board which continued into the evening where Barry offered his own congratulations to the chapter companions and expressed his delight in the welcome he had received. He also said that it was a delight for him to attend the new facilities at Urmston Masonic Hall and see for himself the light, bright, fit for purpose meeting place. Barry said it was a pleasure for him to attend the Royal Protector Chapter installation and it had proved to him ‘a unique occasion, every time they do it’. So, with the final toast of the evening having been made, it concluded an enjoyable special chapter meeting.
