Malcolm Timms past master of Rockhaven and Horwich Lodge 2324 returned from a three month assignment in Malawi for a quick visit before his next assignment. Malcolm does voluntary work with a Scottish charity has been on assignment to help build small and medium sized enterprises.
The work in Malawi at Nkhotakota and Blantyre, was part of a Scottish government initiative. Malcolm comment that Malawi is the ninth poorest country (of 178) in the world. He was particularly pleased to work alongside a number of other international aid agencies such as USAID, UNDO, DFiD and UNIDO.
In 2012 Malcolm spent three months in Botswana and two months in Sri Lanka working for the same charity, at the same time serving as master of Horwich Lodge No 2424 and then the amalgamated Rockhaven and Horwich Lodge.
Malcolm said it was an exhausting two years but totally worth it. The lodge was extremely supportive and made a number of donations including the purchase of anti-malaria tablets.
No sooner had Malcolm returned from Malawi than he was off on his travels again. He is currently in Kathmandu, Nepal to mentor and train local business consultants in private sector business planning and funding, with a possible trip to Bolivia next year.
