The West Lancashire branch of the Masonic Trout and Salmon Fishing Charity has had a busy season, with three successful events held so far and another two in the near future. The events held so far have been held at Partridge Lakes, Warrington and Whitmore Fisheries, Kirkham. At all three events the fishing has been amazing and a great time has been had by all, with fish ranging from roach, bream and carp being caught, up to the weight of 5ib on occasion.
The weather has also been kind, which meant that our youngsters, who have special needs and our guests from ‘Help for Heroes’ did not get a soaking to spoil their day. Saying that, I am not sure even rain would have dampened their enthusiasm, as their excitement at catching even one fish was infectious.
Having arrived around 10:00am, our guests at each event were introduced to their casters for the day and after a busy morning fishing, lunch was served at around midday to all, including our guests, carers, casters and volunteer helpers. Following lunch, everyone went back for a further round of fishing, before the day was brought to a conclusion with the presentation of medals and certificates to all participants, acknowledging their presence at the event.
On each occasion, an Assistant Provincial Grand Master has been present to make the presentations. At Partridge Lakes Kevin Poynton was present, whilst David Randerson attended the first meeting at Whitmore Fisheries. Also present at each meeting has been APrGM and Chairman of the West Lancashire branch of the MTSFC Keith Kemp, and it was Keith who made the presentations at the second meeting at Whitmore. Grand officer Harry Cox has also been present at many of the events and his attendance is greatly appreciated by everyone involved with charity.
At each fishing event there has been between 13 -18 participants and we have to have a caster to sit alongside each individual guest. Although there has been plenty of people willing to come along to help, more names are always needed to widen the pool of people available, so if anyone would like to get involved with the charity please contact one of the names below.
The next two events are at Manor House Fisheries, Garstang 23 June and Charity Farm Fisheries Wrightington 18 September.
