Due to the timing of a change to the by-laws, it was a rather subdued and mellow installation ceremony at the amalgamated Woodend Epworth Lodge No 5381, held in the Roman Suite at Liverpool Masonic Hall. The principal guests on the evening being Joseph Hall, who received his first appointment to United Grand Lodge less than a year ago as Past Assistant Director of Ceremonies and Bob Paterson, secretary to the Liverpool Group.
On admission, Joseph was warmly welcomed by the WM Derek Evans on behalf of the lodge and taken to his respective place within the room. Director of ceremonies David Bruffell, proclaimed Derek as the WM for the ensuing period and stated that the warrant, book of constitutions and by-laws of the lodge would therefore remain under Derek’s possession and control. With the lodge being in the totally unusual position of having their next installation scheduled for two months’ time and not the usual 12, all offices remained as at present, except for two; the vacant positions of senior and junior deacon were filled by the almoner Bryan Wearing and the treasurer Richard Sutton respectively. The proclamations, perambulations and presentation of the working tools in all of the three degrees were performed in a truly admirable style by the immediate past master George Christie.
At the end the ceremony of installation, Joseph Hall addressed the brethren and brought the congratulations of the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison, wishing Derek and all the brethren the very best of health and hoping they all have a happy period of office. Joe then congratulated the lodge DC and all the brethren who had taken part in the ceremony.
After closing the lodge in peace and harmony, the brethren made their way to an excellent festive board, consisting of a fish cake, embellished with sweet chili sauce and accompanying salad, roast chicken and seasonal vegetables, apple pie with custard and coffee and tea.
