A Masonic visit to Derian House Children’s Hospice

About this time every year there is a Masonic deputation to every hospice in England and Wales. This year the Masonic Charitable Foundation has donated a total of £450,000 to hospices; making a total donation of £12,000,000 since 1984.

In Chorley, Assistant Provincial Grand Master Stewart Seddon and Chorley Group Chairman Peter Lockett visited Derian House Children’s Hospice to present a cheque for £2,760 to Community Fundraiser Judy Miller.

Judy thanked Stewart and Peter for delivering the cheque from the Masonic Charitable Foundation. She said that raising funds is getting more and more difficult every year and that Derian House has to raise £3,850,000 from local organisations and businesses each year. Judy said that the MCF donation and those they receive from individual lodges, chapters and other Masonic orders is a vital source of income.

Judy explained that 2018 will be the 25th anniversary of Derian House opening and that they hope it will be a bumper year for donations and that any help would be much appreciated.

Stewart said that it was always humbling to visit this amazing place and found it incredible that Derian House are supporting 300 families with members who have life limiting medical conditions while providing bereavement support for another 200 families.

Stewart said that the work Derian House does is amazing and that he was looking forward to coming back next year.
