A jam-packed afternoon tea at Hindley

The cream of Hindley Masonic Hall attended the Borsdane Lodge No 6460 sold-out afternoon tea event and were welcomed by WM Arthur Swift and his wife Val.

Starting with a glass of bubbly, the afternoon got off to a great start, with the theme patriotically linked to St George’s Day. It was the wives of Borsdane Lodge members, led by Mrs Jennifer Kelly, that made the marvellous, well-presented feast, which was served by some well-practised waiters-cum-stewards, looking the part in white shirts and bow ties.

Food galore had been lovingly prepared and assembled which drew very favourable comments and comparisons were made with other gastronomic venues where one would expect three times the cost. There were four kinds of sandwiches, scones, cream and jam, a large selection of cakes and tea and coffee completed a sumptuous meal.

It wasn’t just the scones that were jam-packed, the hall was literally full to bursting, and everyone enjoyed a wonderful flag waving finale with a singalong of English heritage favourites.

Group chairman Geoffrey Porter ran the tombola, with over 80 good prizes, which was a complete sell out and a great contribution to Borsdane’s future charitable donations.

All-in-all, a good time was had by all.
