FREEMASONRY
IN THE SOUTH EASTERN GROUP
The South Eastern Group of Lodges within the Province of West Lancashire is situated between the boundaries of the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey from Flixton to Heaton Norris, Stockport, along the A6 through Levenshulme and Rusholme to Old Trafford and Hulme. This section borders on the Masonic Province of East Lancashire, and many Lodges, particularly those meeting at Heaton Moor, show the influence of the happy mixing of traditions from both Provinces
We have one Masonic Hall at Urmston, which is now the home of 13 Lodges and three Chapters, and a Masonic suite which is situated above the Conservative club at Heaton Moor, and which is home for five Lodges and two Chapters.
The Masonic Fellowship of the South Eastern Group is a popular social gathering. It is open to all Masons, widows, their families and friends. They meet at Urmston Masonic Hall on the second Wednesday afternoon during the year. They enjoy a wide range of activities, including outings to places of interest such as Chatsworth House, coffee mornings and weekends away to holiday resorts.
As well as supporting our own Masonic charities, particularly those for children and widows, a tradition of generous giving allows Lodges in the Group to support local charities such as Francis House, which is a hospice for terminally ill children, St Ann’s Hospice, Christie Hospital for cancer care, Child Flight, Bethesda Disabled Scouts and Guides Group, Beechwood Cancer Care Day Centre, Wish upon a Star, and other local charities.
