Forthcoming Events

The Chairman’s Run on Sunday, 14, September, will start at about 9.30am from the Phantom Winger at Broughton. Members can follow a route of their own choice to finish for lunch at the Waddington Arms in Waddington, near Clitheroe.

Club members have been invited to attend an afternoon of bowling and a garden party being held by the Leyland Group of Lodges on Saturday, 7 June at the Ley Inn, Whittle-le-Woods. Activities start at lunchtime and continue until 4.00pm. It is hoped that as many members as possible will attend to promote membership of the club. Please inform Dennis Read, 01772 433972, if you are able to attend.

It is proposed to have another “Tulip Run” on Sunday, 17 August, following a similar route to the first one held from Ribchester. It would be helpful if members could let Dennis Read know if you wish to attend by 1 June.

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Club was held on Sunday, 23rd July at Wellington Park, Leyland after a superb buffet.  Due to significant progress in 2005/2006, the WLMCCC is in a strong position. Membership has increased and it now stands at 38 with more enquiries coming because of the Provincial News Letter.

The events that have taken place to date have been TOP CLASS.  A twice yearly Newsletter is produced with reports and pictures of the activities undertaken by the Club.

The next event is the Summer Run on Sunday, 20th August, starting from Truckhaven, Carnforth.  Two of the more senior members would appreciate navigators, so if ANYONE wants to join the run and assist these brethren, please contact the Secretary, Mrs. Cath Read on 01772 433972, or e-mail loughrigg89@hotmail.com.

The Club is looking forward to another good year.

Chairman's Report

Chairman

I am pleased to report again significant progress during 2007 with increased membership, which now stands at 47 and augers well for the future of the WLMCCC for 2008.  Some of our events, which took place in 2007, were well attended.  Arthur Kaye and the rest of the committee were disappointed that we had to cancel the weekend run due to lack of support.  We need at least 10 cars to make it worth making all the arrangements.  We hope to repeat this event – it makes a great weekend, which I know the ladies enjoy – but it must have your support.

I would like to thank one of our members, Dennis Askham, owner of the Royal Hotel at Silverdale, for putting on a super carvery lunch for the Chairman’s Run.  Fifty-one members and friends had a good day out.  It was nice to see our President, the Provincial Grand Master, together with his wife turning up in his Singer Hunter.

On a sad note, the death of our Treasurer, Mike Holt, came as a great shock to all of us.  He will be sadly missed. Thank you to Brian Seddon for standing in as acting treasurer.  I would like to thank the committee for all the work members do for the club.

Your Chairman
Peter Meakin

RAF Woodvale - Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th August 2007

Members attended the RAF Woodvale Show with their classics on August 4 and 5. Melvyn and Marylin Willett also used their caravan as support and displayed a number of photographs of previous events as well as membership forms and leaflets on Freemasonry.

The object of the exercise was to promote Freemasonry and the Classic Car Club and new members were recruited at the show who did not realise that the Province of West Lancashire had a Classic Car Club!

West Lancashire Masonic Caravan Club- August Bank Holiday Weekend at St.Michaels

First National Caravan Rally

The agenda for the weekend was to help raise the profile of the club.  I feel we achieved this as the interest that was shown - especially on the Saturday, which was probably due to the Provincial Grand Master's involvement - got the Masons in general to see what we're trying to form.

Once again I must compliment Melvin and Marilyn for their efforts in organising the event and the other members that contributed.

I provided the support vehicle and our own classic car.  This was the first time Julie had driven the Mercedes SL - she had to follow me as I was driving the motor home - can't get her out of the SL now!

The weekend generally was a super success and both Julie and I very much look forward to the next event.

CHAIRMAN’S RUN  21ST October 2007

Several vehicles did manage to get from the Phantom Winger at Broughton to the Royal Hotel at Silverdale, where the Provincial Grand Master and his wife, Catherine, joined the proceedings.

After the superb carvery lunch and a successful raffle, the club presented Cath and Dennis Read with a bouquet on the occasion of their 18th wedding anniversary which was celebrated on ‘Trafalgar Day’ – the day of the Chairman’s Run!  Cath amd Dennis thanked the club for the beautiful flowers.

Fortunately the weather was good and it was very enjoyable to wander about the car park admiring the various classic vehicles.

January Weekend

A weekend away on 19 to 21 January was based at the Heaves Hotel, Levens near Sizergh Castle.

This was an enjoyable break with a coach trip to Sellafield on the Saturday finishing the day with dinner at the hotel.

Although the hotel is still in the process of being renovated, the food is excellent, and as the club gets a special deal for both food and accommodation – very good value.

It was home on the Sunday after another superb WLMCCC event.

West Lancashire Masonic Classic Car Club Presentation to V.W.Bro. Tom Blackburn, Past Dep. Prov. Grand Master

At the April meeting of Peace and Unity Lodge No 316 at Saul Street, Preston, a presentation was made to the Worshipful Master, VWBro Tom Blackburn, by WBro Peter Meakin, Chairman of the West Lancashire Masonic Classic Car Club.  The presentation of a mounted clock in the form of a steering wheel with a plaque attached was for his outstanding contribution to the club. Tom was very surprised and pleased to receive such a gift. He thanked Peter and the members of the Classic Car Club.
