Classic car club treasurer dies
W Bro Michael Holt, who had been Treasurer of the West Lancashire Masonic Classic Car Club since its inception has died.
Michael (as he was known by his family) or Mike (to his friends) had three main loves in his life – family, railways and classic cars – and not necessarily in that order!
Born and brought up in Lytham, he eventually established his career with HSBC and became a Pension Review Manager. Eventually, taking early retirement, he moved to Rufford and was able to spend more of his time pursuing his interests and hobbies.
As a member of several societies and clubs, he always gave freely of his time and experience in various ways. He was treasurer or auditor to a number of groups and was always ready to help. His meticulous and organised approach to many things was much sought after and appreciated.
His main interest was steam railways and he had been an enthusiast from his very early years having joined the Wigan and District Model Engineering Society when he was about seven.
Another of his great interests was classic cars. At the time of his death he was engaged in the complete rebuild of an early model two-door Range Rover. It is hoped that the family will complete the work. Mike also had a Series 1 Land Rover, which had been restored, and he often took it to Land Rover meetings and rallies.
He was also an excellent and keen photographer – a hobby he had followed from his youth.
The new acting treasurer of the club is WBro B Seddon.

Inaugural Meeting of the Club
The inaugural meeting of the newly formed Masonic Classic
Car Club took place at the National Clay Pigeon Shoot at Houghton Tower
on the 6th
June 2004.
The WLMCPS Society kindly agreed that the meeting could
be hosted at the same time as the shooting event and the Classic Car Club
meeting organiser Peter Meakin, who owns a classic car was pleased to receive
about 20 cars on show in the Courtyard of Houghton Tower.
The organisers held their first official
meeting of the club. Future events
was high on the agenda and will be published here as soon as they are agreed.
The day was an exciting and entertaining
day for the whole family, masons and non masons alike.
Here are some examples of the cars on show. Guess which one
is the PGM's Singer?

Summer Run
The second event of the West Lancaster Masonic Classic Car Club was held on Sunday, 21st August 2005.
On that day, quite a number of cars started at The Phantom Winger at Broughton, and after a run round the Trough of Bowland, they toured round quite a number of unknown roads round the Vale of Lune, and ended at Beetham Garden Centre, after a lovely stop for lunch at the Fenwick Arms at Claughton, (where our President & Vice-President joined us) via a most interesting route again organised superbly by Arthur Kaye. Even the weather was kind, with sunshine all the way.
The Chairman, Peter Meakin & his wife, Mary, unfortunately had a breakdown a couple of miles before the Lunch stop but managed to get a lift from a good Samaritan.
Everyone had a great time - even the ones who had a problem with the directions ! Looking forward to the next one.

Lunchtime Buffet at Wellington Park
Sunday the 16th January saw the latest get together of the member of the West Lancashire Masonic Car Club.
A buffet luch was held for all the members and apart from the President and Vice President, all the committee members and most of the members were present.
Despite atrocious weather, 6 members ventured out in their classic cars but the 33 others who attended, used their weekday cars.
A wonderful time was had by all and thanks go to the Masonic Hall for the arrangements and buffet (and the flexible approach to the groups needs)

Isle of Man Trip
Friday, 15th April was a wet and windy day, but five vehicles were met by the PGM of IOM, VW George Peake and his wife in their classic Bentley, as well as Dennis & Cath Read who were on the island already.
The visitors were escorted to the Castletown Golf Links Hotel, passing the quayside, Douglas where Princess Anne was naming the new yacht for the use of ‘Sailing for the Disabled’.
They then went to the Calf of Man and Creigneish. Improved weather meant enjoyable scenery.
Saturday morning was wet and it transpired that on the higher ground SNOW had fallen - not anticipated in April! This unfortunately meant that the mountain roads were closed and plans drastically adjusted…
The weather improved, so Shopping at Tynwald Mills, Jurby Junk and Ramsey for Lunch. Then down to Laxey to see the Wheel, then Douglas before returning to Castletown.
Sunday was again very wet and there was concern that the ferry would not get out - it did and the crossing was not too bad - unlike the trip over…..
Hopefully a similar trip can be organised in the future.
