After watching the weather with some trepidation in advance of their annual family fun day, members of Silverdale Lodge No 6926 were well rewarded with a beautiful sunny day which encouraged an excellent attendance by members, friends and families.
Held at Hawksheads Farm, Bolton-le-Sands, the event included the ever-popular welly-throwing competition, which this year was won by Chris Isherwood and of course, the revellers enjoyed the usual magnificent ‘five-star’ barbecue under the control of those ‘Masters of the Charcoal’ Alan Procter and Peter Davies.
This year, however, there were some new activities and entertainments including ‘Guess the name of the Sheep’ (Shaun was definitely too obvious!), horse rides, and a very popular attraction of ‘Have your picture drawn’ by skilled cartoonist Evsie. ‘Evsie’, or Robert Grenville Evans to give him his Sunday name, is in his own words, a “fifty-something-going-on-fourteen skinny bloke who paints pictures and draws cartoons”. This somewhat self-effacing description belies the skill of this obviously highly accomplished artist as will be readily seen by visiting his web-site www.grenville-evans.co.uk
Of course, the main attendees – the children, just had the time of their lives being able to run around and entertain themselves!
