In addition to his artistic heavy metal and rock musical interests, Daren, being a blacksmith, is also an artist in beating metals, an artificer to the Queen it could be said.

Daren’s business received a request from a local stonemason to manufacture a metal framework to support a commemorative stone plaque which was acquired from a reclamation site. The stone backing of the plaque was previously nine inches thick and weighed just under one ton, the stonemason carried out his work and the two conjoined efforts were mounted together in the Accrington market hall as a commemorative ornament.

The Queen unveiled the historic Victoria Coat of Arms plaque to commemorate her visit to the Accrington Market Hall, on the first day of a two-day tour of the North West of England in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee.

Prior to Her Majesty’s visit, Daren was only told three weeks prior that his framework supporting the historic coat of arms would be involved in the royal unveiling, Daren said: “At that point in time neither myself or the stonemason knew it was to be unveiled by the Queen. I have to say, it does make you sharpen your pencil when you realise Her Majesty is part of the equation. We had to move really fast to the completion date”.
