The sun shines on Chorley bowlers

In the midst of a period of wet and windy weather, the sun managed to break through and shine for most of the day at the Chorley and District Group bowling competition, which was held at Rivington Village Bowling Club.

Everyone enjoyed an excellent day’s bowling with fierce competition for the various trophies, watched by a number of non bowlers and many locals and walkers who had called at the club for refreshments.

The winner of the main competition was Ray Wilkinson of Rivington Lodge No 8013 and chairman of the group bowling society, who won a particularly close final 15-14 against Stewart Rothwell of Westhoughton Lodge No 4215 and secretary of the society.

The John Robson cup for masters and first principals was won by Malcolm Warren, also of Rivington Lodge, who overcame Richard Frazer-Bastable of Horwich Chapter No 2324 in the final.

The ladies’ trophy was taken by second time winner, Carol Edge, who narrowly defeated Cheryl Rothwell, a former winner of the competition.

The Chorley Group Chairman, John Robson, thanked Stewart and Cheryl Rothwell and Maurice and Carol Edge for organising the event, which he had thoroughly enjoyed, both as a bowling competition and a social occasion.
