Ray is recognised for his outstanding services

It was an extremely emotional and yet uplifting time during the centenary meeting of the Stanley of Bickerstaffe Lodge No 3511 when the Provincial Grand Master Peter Hosker asked for Ray Tompsett (ADC) to be placed before him.

Peter addressing Ray said that every successful lodge has at least one brother that gives outstanding services, someone who is well respected, highly regarded and a key member of the lodge.

It is often his commitment and enthusiasm that keeps the lodge alive and in good heart, particularly during lean years, he went on to say that Ray was such a man and a brother. During his Masonic career Ray has been WM of this lodge on three separate occasions, but actually served for four years, 1984, 1995, 2007 and 2008. He has held the office of treasurer, assistant secretary, DC and ADC.  Later this year he takes over once again as DC.

Additionally, Ray has been chairman of the lodge social committee for 15 years organising and running an average of three social events each year which has enabled the lodge to donate large sums of money to Masonic and non-Masonic causes, and for the lodge to become Grand Patrons of the last two festivals held in the Province.

Peter said: “As the lodge celebrates it’s centenary, I have decided to promote you to Past Provincial Junior Grand Warden and I do not bestow such an honour lightly, however, it seems to me that at this centenary we should celebrate and recognise your outstanding service”. The Provincial Grand Secretary Geoffrey Lee then read aloud the patent of appointment after which Peter invested Ray with his collar and jewel of office.

In reply Ray accepted the honour on behalf of himself and also on behalf of the brethren and he said he would wear it with pride especially when representing the Stanley of Bickerstaffe Lodge.
