Stanley sees Colin installed as WM of Makerfield Lodge

The members of Makerfield Lodge No 2155 which meets at Leigh Masonic Hall were honoured to receive and delighted by the presence of Stanley Oldfield (Assistant Provincial Grand Master) at their 125 installation meeting.

Stanley was accompanied by Malcolm Parr (group chairman), Len Hart (group vice chairman), Joe Hine (group secretary), Grand Officer, Graeme Hughes along with two Acting Provincial Grand Officers, Phil Spencer and Eddie Wilkinson along with other distinguished officers and brethren who attended to witness the installation of the Colin Thorne.

The installing master, Mark Sabor ably assisted by officers of the lodge installed Colin into the chair in what proved to be an excellent installation. The working tools were presented in a word perfect manner by Anthony Newton in the third degree, fellowcraft David Gordon Williams in the second degree and fellowcraft Lee Smith in the first degree.

On completion of the installation, three very generous cheques were presented to Stanley, £275 made out in favour of the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity, £115 made out in favour of the Leigh Group Charities Account and £100 in favour of the Bowling Group. Stanley expressed his pleasure in accepting the cheques on behalf of the organisations and thanked the lodge members on behalf of all those who will eventually benefit from the donations.

It was communicated to Stanley that at the October lodge meeting, Makerfield donated £1,510 towards the Leigh Group Buildings Appeal. During the evening, Stanley referred to the lodge’s generosity in supporting the building appeal as a most important donation and congratulated them for that.

The monies were raised as a result of a Sportsmans dinner evening held in May at Leigh Masonic Hall where celebrity sportsman Andy Gregory, ex-Great Britain and Wigan Rugby League player was the  principal guest for that evening, the very successful fundraising event was organised by Makerfield Lodge members Phil Spencer and Anthony Newton

A very enjoyable, friendly festive board continued and thus concluding an excellent evening.
