Rosemere Cancer Foundation ‘Walk in the dark’

On a Saturday night in April a little over 100 people gathered at starting at 9.30 pm to take part in the annual ‘Walk in the Dark’ organised by Rosemere Cancer Foundation and supported by Furness Building Society.

The walk starts from Chorley Hospital and finishes at Royal Preston Hospital just 13 miles in total and is expected to take between three and four hours. When the walkers arrive in Charters restaurant at the hospital they are glad to rest and partake of the brews, bacon butts on offer before they return home to bed for a well earned rest.

Rosemere Cancer Foundation provides additional facilities and equipment for patients being treated at local cancer units throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria, helping to provide the very best care possible for patients. The Rosemere Cancer Foundation also funds vital local research, at Lancaster University, where groundbreaking developments have recently been made in the study of prostate cancer – a subject dear to the hearts of many Freemasons within the Province.

What was different this year was that the Leyland and District Group of Freemasons were invited to assist with the marshalling of the event. For many reasons Rosemere would have been unable to hold this year’s event if the brethren and their wives had not volunteered to assist at the last minute and Glynn Wrennall (Leyland Group Charity Steward) said “I think I speak for us all when I say, what a joy it was to be involved in such a worthwhile event, enabling Rosemere to raise £15,000 for the Foundation.”

Glynn also “thanked all the volunteer marshals for making the walk such a success, with special thanks to Norman Corke of Astley Lodge in the Chorley Group for being backup man, first aider, water and Mars bar distributor, sign taker down …. I think you get the picture.”
